ഒച്ചുകളുടെ വ്യാപനം ഓരോ ദിവസവും വർധിച്ചുവരുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ പഞ്ചായത്ത്, കൃഷിവകുപ്പ്, ആരോഗ്യവകുപ്പ് എന്നിവയുടെ ഏകോപനത്തോടെ പ്രദേശത്ത് പ്രത്യേക പ്രതിരോധ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നടത്തണമെന്നാണ് നാട്ടുകാരുടെ ആവശ്യം.

Locals complain that their daily life is affected as they reach walls of houses kitchen and other rooms. After menace became severe locals complained to panchayat and agriculture department. Then instruction was received to destroy snails using copper sulphate. Awareness class also conducted at place under leadership of agriculture department. Accordingly early morning people check house and surroundings and collect snails using stick or other tools into bucket and apply copper sulphate and bury them. Snails reaching wells and other water sources is also increasing concern. Since it may cause health problems locals demand scientific and collective preventive activities to be implemented urgently to fully control snails. Pannyannur Panchayat Agriculture Officer SR Sneha said that after receiving complaint she visited place and as part of preventive activities distributed copper sulphate. If preventive activities are done in only one or two houses permanent solution cannot be found for this problem. All households in area must participate in collective activities of collecting and destroying snails at same time. Agriculture officer warned to be extremely careful in controlling snails otherwise there is possibility of serious health problems like meningitis brain fever. In situation where spread of snails is increasing every day locals demand special preventive activities in area with coordination of panchayat agriculture department and health department.
