** **മഹാത്മ ഗാന്ധിയുടെ 155-ാം ജന്മദിനമാണ് ഇന്ന്. ഗുജറാത്തിലെ പോർബന്ധറിൽ 1869 ഒക്ടോബർ 2നാണ് മോഹൻദാസ് കരംചന്ദ് ഗാന്ധി ജനിച്ചത്.

1948 ജനുവരി 30ന് ഹിന്ദുത്വ ഭീകരൻ നാഥുറാം ഗോഡ്സേ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വെടിവെച്ച് കൊല്ലുകയായിരുന്നു. പുത്തൻ സമരമാർഗമായ അഹിംസയും അക്രമരാഹിത്യവും മുന്നോട്ട് വെച്ച ഗാന്ധിയോടുള്ള ആദരസൂചകമായി ഒക്ടോബർ 2 അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര അഹിംസാ ദിനമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കാൻ 2007ൽ UN സഭ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
